Determines defects in, repairs, and maintains heating, water, and drainage systems in industrial or commercial establishments. Inspects high-pressure, air, steam, water, and gas systems to ascertain malfunctions; repairs or replaces plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, water heaters and hot water tanks; replaces washers; mends or replaces burst or leaky pipes; tests joints and pipe systems for leaks; opens clogged drains; measures, cuts, threads, bends, reams, and installs pipe and pipe fittings. Uses plumbers' tools such as snakes, wrenches, plungers, pipe threaders, etc. Maintains knowledge of local codes.
Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of the job. Substantial acquaintance with and understanding of general aspects of the job with a broad understanding of the detailed aspects of the job.
Supervision Given and Received: Direct supervision and instructions given for routine work and detailed instructions given for new activities or special assignments. Typical Duties and Tasks: Duties & tasks are varied but standardized. Performs some more advanced functions. Resolves routine questions and problems, and refers more complex questions to higher levels.
Consequence of Errors: Errors may be detected and corrected but may cause moderate loss of time or customer/user dissatisfaction.
Contacts: Contacts are typically with individuals within own department and occasionally with contacts outside own organization. Contacts involve obtaining or providing information or data requiring some explanation or interpretation.
High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years' additional education and/or related experience.
High School diploma or equivalent.
4/10 workweek; 1st shift.
