Description


Chipton-Ross is seeking a Senior Technical Editor for an opportunity in El Segundo, CA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manager is looking for someone who can wear multiple hats-working as both a solid editor/project manager but, just as important, also working as a professional-level word processor.
Responsible for the content of technical documentation. Provides technical editing and formatting of reports and journal publications. Checks documents for spelling, grammar and content problems. Ensures that documents follow the organization's style guide. May also be responsible for maintaining the style guide.
Edits and rewrites technical copy to ensure consistency and compliance with security and contractual requirements.
Edits and proofreads engineering documents that include text, artwork, tables, graphs and mathematical materials.
Plans layout and coordinates preparation of illustrative material, reproduction and other publication services.
Oversees document preparation from start through distribution.
Prepares cost estimate and project work orders.
Utilizing desktop publishing software, creates, inputs, revises, formats and produces publication materials from handwritten and typed drafts including complex tables and figures.
Formats and modifies complex mathematical equations.
Scans, modifies, enhances and edits original and previously published documents for inclusion in technical reports and presentations.
Coordinates data input, typing, artwork and final presentation of reports, briefings, papers and presentations.
May need to troubleshoot application/software and hardware problems.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Must have a Bachelors' degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field.
Must have 5-7 years relevant years of experience as a Technical Writer (employment must show consistency as a technical writer; no career hopper).
Must possess excellent writing skills - this includes a very strong writing/editing background and it must show.
Demonstrated mastery of grammar, punctuation and spelling (this should reflect on candidate's resume).
Needs to express ideas logically, clearly and concisely.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work under deadline and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Candidate MUST be an expert with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint due to the more complex task.
Advanced skills in MS Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Visio.
Proficient in Adobe applications including Acrobat, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
Must have excellent word processing skills in addition to the requisite editing skills. (Make sure candidate have a good grasp of how to use the programs' complex features.)

EDUCATION:
Must have a Bachelors' degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field.
School must be accredited.

HOURS:
5/40 workweek


Employment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
