Chipton-Ross is seeking a Designer 3 - Piping for an opportunity in Newport News, VA.
Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.
Leveling Factors: Knowledge: Full Considerable knowledge of the job. Complete acquaintance with and understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job, and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
Supervision Given and Received: Limited supervision. No instructions needed on routine work, and general instructions given on new lines of work or special assignments.
Typical Duties and Tasks: Duties & tasks are varied and moderately complex. Resolves most questions and problems, and refers complex questions to higher levels.
Consequence of Errors: Errors may be difficult to detect and would normally result in loss of customer business, material, or equipment to resolve.
Contacts: Contacts are frequent with individuals representing other departments, and/or representing outside organizations. Contacts involve obtaining or providing information or data on matters of moderate importance to the function of the department or which may be of sensitive nature.
This position will specifically support the checking of drawings and 3D model files for CVN80.
This position will not require clearance, driving, travel, or PPE.
The main work site location is outside yard gates.
Associate's or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years of related experience. **Candidates with ABET accredited Bachelor's degree will not be considered***
Associate’s Degree and 3 years of experience. 2 years of related experience can be substituted for Associate’s degree. 4 years of non-related experience can be substituted for Associate’s degree. An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School can be substituted for Associate’s degree.
Equivalency: Associate’s Degree and 3 years of experience. 2 years of related experience can be substituted for Associate’s degree. 4 years of non-related experience can be substituted for Associate’s degree. An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School can be substituted for Associate’s degree.
Candidates submitted must have the following experience:
• Should be able to perform work independently in Siemens NX/TC and/or Autodesk Inventor. Should be able to mentor other users.
• Must be willing to support waterfront trades on the ship. This would include climbing vertical ladders.
• Must have good analytical skills for problem solving.
Piping Design Background, Siemens NX Experience, 3D Product Model or Drawing Experience
Associate's or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline is required. See required experience for substitution.

This position will not require driving or travel.
Employment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
