Chipton-Ross is seeking a Principal Engineer for a contract opportunity in Canoga Park, CA OR West Palm Beach, FL.

**Candidate will work in the ATF (Aero Thermal Fluids) group based out of either the Canoga Park facility or West Palm Beach Facility but fully remote is possible depending on candidate qualifications.**

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
Candidate must have an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or the equivalent combination of education and a minimum of 7 years of experience. A strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics. High proficiency in ANSYS Workbench and tools associated with turbomachinery analysis. Familiarity with utilizing LINUX systems. Experience programming in MATLAB, FORTRAN, Python.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shall have the capability to utilize a combination of commercial and in-house developed software tools, and/or hand calculation methods to design and analyze bearings and seals related to pump fed liquid rocket engine systems Shall have extensive knowledge of designing and analyzing a variety of bearings and seals such as:
Bearings.
Rolling Elements: Ball, Roller, and Cylindrical bearings Fluid Film: Hydrostatic, annular, balance piston, and hydrodynamic.
Seals.
Dynamic, clearance, rubbing contact, and lift-off.
May need to collaborate with design engineers to provide tribology support focusing on seals, bearings, and sliding interfaces.

This role involves selecting material systems that meet design requirements, assisting design engineers in developing wear-resistant materials, finishes, and geometries for robust operation in both launch and in-space environments Shall be able to identify and mitigate lubrication and wear risks in high-performance mechanisms, recommend and implement coupon testing to screen materials for wear life and damage modalities, and collaborate with and audit suppliers to ensure all processes, coatings, and finishes meet design and qualification requirements.

80% - Perform all or a combination of design and analysis tasks related to bearings and seals. The candidate shall be capable to work with minimal oversight. Responsible for utilizing a combination of commercial and in-house developed software tools, and/or hand calculation methods to correlate analysis models and review test data.
10% - Strengthens the technical capacity of the company and facilitates transfer of technology by mentoring less experienced engineers and team members.
10% - Produce analysis reports and test reports. Present analysis to both internal and external customers.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Accredited Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or the equivalent combination of education and a minimum of 7 years of experience.

DESIRED EDUCATION:
Accredited Master's degree or higher in engineering related field.

WORK HOURS:
Full-time 9/80

Employment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
