Chipton-Ross is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer 3 for a contract opportunity in Newport News, VA



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

o 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD. Requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program. Steel, wood, and concrete design courses; Pier or related structural design experience; Experience with pier, mechanical, or naval architecture design.
  • PPE: Hardhat, safety glasses, safety toe shoes.
  • POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications. The Civil/Structural Engineer position provides technical oversight for various structural and mechanical systems on piers. The Structural Engineer will be required to develop a cohesive working relationship with system operators and maintenance personnel. The candidate should have knowledge of structural design and engineering. The candidate's day-to-day responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within assigned system(s).
  • Provide technical direction to maintenance and project teams to support routine and non-routine work.
  • Provide engineering resolutions for system problems/configuration changes.
  • Produce and/or oversee the development of technical documentation that govern the system design, configuration, and operation.
  • Develop a long range strategic plan for improvements to assigned utility system(s).
  • Participate in the development of planned maintenance requirements.
  • Support resolution of unplanned events.
  • Develop and maintain critical system metrics.
  • Participate in project design and implementation process for system related projects.
  • Oversee project/system testing to ensure system meets technical requirements and operates at peak performance.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of a pier maintenance and inspection certification program with key stakeholders.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Structural Engineering degree with an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) working towards PE registration, is preferred.
  • Shipyard/Nuclear facilities experience is desirable.
  • REQUIRED EDUCATION:

    Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program is required.

    WORK HOURS:

    5/40 workweek. 7:30AM to 4PM.


    Employment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
